Frequently asked questions
Where does insider trading data come from?+
From the official ownership filings insiders must submit within two business days of a trade. We record open-market purchases and sales and show grants, option exercises and tax withholding separately.
Do you track members of Congress or their families?+
Not yet. We only show what official insider filings contain. Relatives of public officials appear only if they are insiders of a company (for example a director) and file these reports themselves.
Are insider sales bearish?+
Not necessarily. Many sales are pre-planned (10b5-1 plans), for taxes or diversification. Open-market buys are rarer and often watched more closely. That is why insider activity has only a 5% weight and buys count more than sales.
Is this investment advice?+
No. It is a summary of public filings for information only, not a recommendation to buy or sell any security.
